Tulsa Art Show Features Pieces From Alzheimer's Community

South Tulsa – The second annual "Inspire Your Heart With Art" art show is showcasing works from the Tulsa Alzheimer's community.

The show is at the Cypress Springs Alzheimer's Memory and Support Residence near 71st and Yale.

It starts Tuesday at 4 p.m. and wraps up at 6.

The show is to inspire creativity in Alzheimer's residents.

Caring for caregivers

When caring for a parent or loved one, oftentimes the caregiver’s own health and productivity at work slips

Every day, she wakes at 4 a.m., despite being up most of the night caring for her mother.

In those early hours, she arranges her mother’s medicines, changes soiled sheets, cleans and bathes her mother and takes her to a day center.

By the time she arrives at work, she’s already exhausted.

Family gatherings good time to notice behavior changes

The holiday season is a time for giving thanks, exchanging gifts and, most importantly, family gatherings. As families become more extended and spread out over the country, the holidays are often the only time each year they come together.

It's often during these gatherings when family members begin noticing slight to moderate changes in the behavior of their loved ones. These behaviors could stem from the onset of Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.

Cypress Springs Tulsa names director, marketer

Cypress Springs Alzheimer's and Memory Support Residence, an assisted-living community, hired Ann Shields as executive director and Lisa Truett as director of sales and marketing. As executive director, Shields oversees the day-to-day operations. Truett is responsible for directing sales and marketing programs and consulting with prospective residents and families.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jeremy Allen has been hired as director of sales and marketing for Cypress Springs Alzheimer’s and Memory Support Residence in Oklahoma City.

Allen was project director with Sunbeam Family Services. He is a graduate and has a master of business of administration degree from Southern Nazarene University.

Cypress Springs expands in Kansas

The developers of a new Alzheimer's residence opening next month in Wichita are planning to break ground on their second Kansas property.

Philip Brosseau, principal in Texas-based Cypress Springs ALZ, said the company expects to begin construction on an Alzheimer's and memory care residence in Overland Park at the end of October.

Cypress Springs memory care home names director, marketer

As Cypress Springs Alzheimer’s and Memory Support Residence progresses toward its opening, key personnel are being hired.

Thomas Broderick will lead the east Wichita facility, which is in the Wilson Estates Medical Park, near 21st and Webb. Kylie Agnew has been hired as director of sales and marketing.

The $4.6 million, 35,000-square-foot facility is on pace to open Oct. 1. Construction started in December.

Check Up On Seniors With Dementia During Extreme Heat

Anybody can succumb to the heat, but for the elderly it can become dangerous, especially if they are suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's Disease.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, more than 60 percent of people who suffer from dementia will wander off and get lost at least once. Of those who wander, 70 percent will wander many times. Thirty-three percent will die if not found within 24 hours. And that number increases in extreme temperatures.

Dementia Patients Vulnerable to Heat

The State Medical Examiner is increasing the death toll from the heat to 15 Oklahomans while still investigating ten others.

Nine of those were over the age of 65.

Health officials are urging caution with the elderly especially Alzheimer’ and Dementia patients like those in Oklahoma City’s Cypress Springs Memory Support center.
